NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for us to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. This year, NAIDOC Week was celebrated 7-14 July.

On the first Sunday of NAIDOC Week we were privileged to have Barbara Hostalek speak during our worship service. Barbara is a proud Yawuru woman (East Kimberley) who lives and works on beautiful Wadjuk Boodja, Boorlo. Currently, she is a veterinarian at Murdoch University’s Veterinary School and also works as a lecturer. She supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterinary students at the university. Barbara is also a talented artist and playwriter. She is the writer of ‘Banned’ and ‘Cracked’. She spoke about family, culture, and NAIDOC Week. She brought along resources such as books, bush tucker and games to share with us. It was a joy to have Barbara celebrate NAIDOC Week with us.

On the second Sunday of NAIDOC week, there was a display of Aboriginal Art in the church foyer for everyone to enjoy.

The 2023 Christmas Dinner was a fundraiser for ministry in Sri Lanka and Papua. We also raise funds for School Chaplaincy.

Our 2023 Christmas dinner highlighted foods from countries represented in our congregation. People donated items for our Christmas shop. We had a Christmas concert with music from different countries, including a carol sung in Finnish and a Nigerian carol.

It was a great time of fellowship and we raised $2,170, which was outstanding!
